Google vs other search engines
The Google world domination.
Google domination
As of Q1 2019, Google has around 93% market share on search on a global scale, making it the absolute dominant player in its market.
Microsoft’s Bing, previously named MSN Search and later Live Search, has around 2,4% market share.
Yahoo is at 1,8%, while the national search services Baidu (China) has almost 1% and Yandex (Russia) a little over 0,5% market share.
With such a market share, Google will for years to come remain in its position as the global leader of search.
Privacy-focused search emerging
Most commercially driven search engines like Google and Baidu track every pixel and every character that floats through their system, opening up for others to deliver a more privacy-focused search experience.
DuckDuckGo, a search engine launched in 2008 and also commercially driven, has taken the lead in privacy-first search, not logging any activities from their users, and giving all users the exact same results no matter who they are and where they are searching from.
This of course has its drawbacks, however DuckDuckGo has proven this to be a good alternative to its opponents, and in February 2019 DuckDuckGo handled over 35 million daily search queries.
